Dr. Montenegro is a board-certified psychiatrist, and an educator and researcher at the University of Washington School of Medicine and Seattle Children's Hospital. He treats children, adolescents, and adults in his part-time private practice. His research focuses on bias in medicine, doctor-patient communication, and health inequities. His work has been featured in top medical journals and media, including the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Journal of General Internal Medicine, USA Today, King 5 News, National Geographic Family, and National Public Radio. In addition to his private practice and ongoing work in academic medicine, he also provides care to incarcerated and unaccompanied youth in detention centers in Washington State.

Dr. Montenegro is a first-generation college student from East Los Angeles, CA. He completed his Ph.D. in Sociology at UCLA, focusing on Race, Racism, Medical Sociology and Doctor-Patient communication. He then completed his M.D. at the University of Utah, adult psychiatry residency at Yale University, and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the University of Washington.
